Skimstone

date:2022/5/5 6:13:44 area:Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia

Skimstone, locatedin Mudgee of New South Wales, Australia.

In 2009, afterleaving Orlando Wines, Josh Clementson and his wife, together with theirfriends Mr. and Mrs. Holden, founded Skimstone in Mudgee, a micro winery thatproduces only 1,000 cases per year.

The name "Mudgee"comes from the Wiradjuri word "Moothi", which means "a place ofcomfort in the mountains".

Standing on ahill, looking out over the rolling hills and idyllic valleys in the distance,it's easy to see why the original natives named it this way.

With an averagealtitude of about 500 meters above sea level, Mudgee has the same inlandplateau climate as Burgundy in France. The vineyards stay cool even on thehottest days, making it one of Australia's top wine regions.

In fact, Mudgeehas been growing grapes for more than 100 years and has played a key role inthe entire history of Australian wine.

In 1832,Australia's first Chardonnay vine crossed the ocean from France and eventuallytook root in Mudgee. Therefore, Mudgee is also known as the cradle ofAustralian Chardonnay.

In addition, Mudgee also has similar soilto the right bank of Pomerol of Bordeaux in France, which is a very rareappellation in Australia suitable for growing high-end Merlot grapes.

It is also knownfor its Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and the Italian varieties Sangiovese andBarbera.

It is this uniqueterroir that makes Skimstone wines stand out from the rest of Australia'swineries.

The wines arefruity and full-bodied, yet elegant and well-balanced, making them unique amongAustralian wines.

Currently, Skimstonehas 10 wines, including single-varietal Marlot, Shiraz, Sangiovese and Barberareds, and single-varietal Chardonnay white.

There are alsoCabernet Sauvignon Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, and two different blendsof red Syrah Merlot, as well as Sangiovese rosé.

Over time, the Skimstonewines have been widely acclaimed by Australian wine critic James Halliday andMaster of Wine Christopher Burr, and are recognized by internationally renownedsommeliers and chefs.

Despite thequality of the terroir and the history of the region, Mudgee is still in theprocess of gaining international recognition.

As a boutiquewinery in the region, Skimstone offers excellent value for money compared towines from other popular Australian regions.
